Hafiz said, "Players who win ICC tournaments inspire the next generation. I am a fan of the players of the 90s, but they left nothing for Pakistan. They lost badly in the 1996, 1999 and 2003 World Cups. We could have won the 1999 final, but lost badly." After this statement of Hafeez, Waqar Younis responded on the social media platform X, sharing a picture of his and Wasim Akram's career statistics and wrote, "Not Bad".

In fact, in the 90s, Pakistan had dangerous bowlers like Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis and Shoaib Akhtar, whose flair was seen a lot in ODIs against India. Regarding this, Shoaib Akhtar also replied to Hafeez and said, "In these 73 ODIs, which Pakistan has won against India, we won them!"

Hafiz believes that the victory of the 2009 T20 World Cup and the 2017 Champions Trophy gave real inspiration to Pakistan cricket. He said, "People today consider Babar Azam as an idol, because he was part of the 2017 trophy-winning team. Unfortunately, the superstars of the 90s could not win any ICC event."
