Domestic stock markets closed with significant gains on Wednesday, the last trading session of 2025. The Sensex and Nifty rose by nearly 1 percent, supported by domestic institutional investors (DIIs).

Indian Stock Market Last Trading Session 2025: Domestic stock markets closed with significant gains on Wednesday in the last trading session of 2025. Supported by domestic institutional investors (DIIs), the Sensex and Nifty rose by nearly one percent. After five consecutive trading sessions of decline, the BSE's 30-share Sensex jumped 545.52 points, or 0.64 percent, to close at 85,220.60.

At one point during trading, it rose 762.09 points to 85,437.17. Meanwhile, the NSE's 50-share benchmark index, Nifty, recovered from a four-day decline and closed at 26,129.60, up 190.75 points, or 0.74 percent.

 

Who were the top gainers and top losers?

Among the Sensex pack, Tata Steel, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Reliance Industries, Axis Bank, Titan, and Trent were the top gainers. However, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Tech Mahindra, Infosys, Bajaj Finance, and Sun Pharma saw selling pressure.

With this, the year 2025 ended on a positive note. The Sensex gained 7,081.59 points, or nine percent, while the Nifty gained 2,484.8 points, or 10.50 percent. 

Condition of other Asian markets

"Investors' risk appetite showed a gradual improvement in the last trading session of the year, mainly due to short covering and buying in select stocks," said Ponmudi R., chief executive officer of online trading platform Enrich Money.

 

Elsewhere in Asia, South Korea's Kospi and Hong Kong's Hang Seng closed in the red, while China's Shanghai Composite Index closed with gains.

European and American market conditions

European markets saw a slight decline during trading. US markets closed lower on Tuesday. According to stock market data, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) sold shares worth ₹3,844.02 crore on Tuesday.

While domestic institutional investors bought shares worth ₹6,159.81 crore. Meanwhile, global oil benchmark Brent crude rose 0.31 percent to $61.53 per barrel. On Tuesday, the Sensex fell for the fifth consecutive day, slipping 20.46 points to close at 84,675.08, while the Nifty closed with a slight decline of 3.25 points at 25,938.85.
