The Union Cabinet for Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Wednesday (December 31, 2025) approved the construction of the 6-lane greenfield, access-controlled Nashik-Solapur-Akkalkot corridor in Maharashtra. The corridor, with a total length of 374 kilometers, will be developed on the BOT (toll) mode at a cost of approximately ₹19,142 crore.

This corridor will connect important cities in Maharashtra like Nashik, Ahilyanagar, and Solapur, and further provide connectivity to Kurnool. This project is a crucial step towards promoting the development of integrated transport infrastructure under the PM Gatishakti National Master Plan.

What is the purpose of building the 6-lane Greenfield Corridor?

The primary objective behind the construction of this access-controlled, 6-lane greenfield corridor is to improve travel efficiency. The Nashik-Akalkot (Solapur) connectivity through this corridor will improve the logistics efficiency of freight transport to and from NICDC's major industrial nodes of Kopparthi and Orvakal. Furthermore, it also addresses the need for the development of the Nashik-Talegaon Dighe section of the Pune-Nashik Expressway, which NICDC has identified as a new expressway project proposed by the Maharashtra government.

The corridor will lead to development in Maharashtra's districts.

The project will provide a high-speed corridor designed for improved safety and seamless traffic flow. It will also reduce travel time, traffic congestion, and operational costs. Additionally, the project will significantly contribute to overall economic development by strengthening infrastructure in the Nashik, Ahilyanagar, Dharashiv, and Solapur districts.

People will get safe, fast, and seamless connectivity.

This 6-lane, access-controlled greenfield corridor will be developed with a closed tolling system, with an average vehicle speed of 60 km/h and a design speed of 100 km/h. This will result in a total travel time of approximately 17 hours, a reduction of approximately 45 percent compared to the current 31 hours. This will provide safe, fast, and seamless connectivity for both passenger and freight vehicles.

The project will increase employment opportunities

Developed at a cost of ₹19,142 crore, the corridor project will generate approximately 25.106 million man-days of direct employment and 31.383 million man-days of indirect employment. Furthermore, increased economic activity along the proposed corridor will create additional employment opportunities.
