Champions Trophy 2025: Pakistan spent a full 14 billion rupees to host the Champions Trophy, but what did it get in the end? Empty stadium, zero earnings from tickets and the country ruined its own image with terrorist attacks in the middle of the tournament. Pakistan tried a lot to humiliate India, but got stuck in its own trick.
Pakistan expert Qamar Cheema also believes that Pakistan organized this tournament, but could not fulfill the objective. It took the help of cricket to improve its image from terrorism, but the continuous blasts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan proved that nothing is normal here.
A farce happened in the name of the tournament!
Pakistan hoped that it would show the world that it has now become a safe and normal country. But terrorist attacks continued during the tournament and the spectators also kept their distance from the stadium. When Pakistan's own team was out of the tournament, the number of spectators coming to the matches of the other teams almost stopped, which ruined the ticket sales.
Qamar Cheema himself admitted that the dream of the Pakistan government was to show its 'soft power' to the world through cricket, but the opposite happened. India further entangled Pakistan in this, because despite tight security arrangements, the attacks made it clear that this country is still unsafe.
Mainstreaming or mental stress?
Pakistan wanted its 'mainstreaming' through this tournament, but the result was that the world became more convinced that nothing is possible here without tight security. The limit was crossed when the final of the tournament was played in Dubai instead of Pakistan! This was like the wedding mandap being decorated and the wedding rounds taking place somewhere else!
So what benefit did Pakistan get?
Qamar Cheema said that Pakistan at least benefited from the Champions Trophy by building stadiums and improving infrastructure. But the real fun was spoiled when the Pakistani team itself was eliminated from the tournament! That is, stadiums were built, security was tightened, the investment was from ICC, but Pakistan's own team spoiled the show.
What did Pakistan get in the end?
Overall, Pakistan hosted the Champions Trophy by investing billions of rupees, but failed to show the world that it is a 'normal country'. Stadiums were built, but tickets were not sold, security was tightened, yet terrorist attacks continued. And the biggest setback? The final went to Dubai. So Pakistan got only huge losses, disgrace and a broken dream!
