Afghanistan vs England: Afghanistan defeated England by 8 runs in the Champions Trophy 2025 match played at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Wednesday (26 February). With the defeat in this match, England was out of the race for the semi-finals.

Disappointed with the defeat, England captain Jos Buttler said after the match that not being able to succeed in the last 10 overs in bowling cost the team heavily.

Root played an incredible innings and we needed one of the top 6 batsmen to stay with him. We were not able to succeed to some extent in the last 10 overs. Credit goes to Ibrahim, he played a brilliant innings. He scored a very good score on that pitch by scoring 113 runs in the last 10 overs. Unfortunately, he (Wood) suffered a knee injury in his fourth over, credit to him for bowling in pain and showing a lot of passion. If I knew that I would not be able to play the way I play (referring to his poor form), being one of the best players in the world, it is disappointing when you do not perform well. I do not want to take any emotional decision. ”

It is worth noting that after winning the toss and batting first, Afghanistan scored 325 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in the stipulated 50 overs. In which Ibrahim Zadran played a record-breaking innings of 177 runs in 146 balls.

In response, England were all out for 317 runs in 49.5 overs. In which Joe Root scored 120 runs in 111 balls, but apart from him no other batsman could leave his mark.
