On Wednesday, 26 February, Afghanistan defeated England by eight runs in the Group B Champions Trophy match at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore and knocked them out of the tournament. However, after Afghanistan's victory, an incident was also seen which probably no cricket fan would want to see. What happened was that after Afghanistan's victory, a fan came on the field and joined the celebration of the Afghan team.
The video of this incident is becoming quite viral on social media in which it can be seen that when England needed 9 runs from 2 balls to win, Azmatullah Umarzai gave Afghanistan victory by dismissing Adil Rashid. As soon as Umarzai confirmed the victory for the team, all the Afghan players gathered and started celebrating their first victory in the Champions Trophy.
When the Afghan players were celebrating the victory, a fan broke the security cordon and entered the field and joined the team's celebration. In the video posted by ICC on its Instagram handle, it can be seen that this fan was holding Gulbadin Naib but later the security officials dragged this fan out of the field. You can see the video of this incident below.
In this match, Umarzai took 5 wickets for 58 runs in 9.5 overs, he made Philip Salt, Joe Root, Jos Buttler, Jamie Overton and Adil Rashid his victims. Earlier in batting, he played a quick innings of 40 runs in 31 balls. Umarzai has become the first player from Afghanistan to take five or more wickets in an innings in an ICC ODI tournament. Earlier, the record for best bowling was in the name of Mohammad Nabi, who took 4 wickets for 30 runs against Cardiff in the 2019 World Cup.
