Lobia Makhani Recipe: Ingredients to make Lobia Makhani

  • Lobia (black-eyed beans) – 1 cup (soaked overnight)
  • Tomatoes – 3 (puree)
  • Onion – 1 (finely chopped)
  • Ginger-garlic paste – 1 tablespoon
  • Green chillies – 2 (finely chopped)
  • Kashmiri red chilli powder – 1 tsp
  • Turmeric powder – ½ tsp
  • Coriander powder – 1 tsp
  • Garam masala – ½ tsp
  • Cream – 2 tablespoons
  • Butter – 2 tbsp
  • Oil- 1 tablespoon
  • Salt – as per taste
  • Green coriander - for garnishing

Method of making Lobia Makhani (Masala Lobia Curry)

First of all, boil the lobia well in a pressure cooker for 3-4 whistles so that it becomes soft. Now heat oil and butter in a pan. Add finely chopped onion and fry till it turns golden. Then add ginger-garlic paste and green chillies and fry till the aroma comes. Now add tomato puree and spices (turmeric, coriander powder, red chilli powder) and fry the spices till it starts releasing oil. Add boiled lobia to the spices and mix well. If needed, add some water and cook on low flame for 10-12 minutes so that the lobia absorbs the flavor of the spices well. Add garam masala and cream and cook for 2 minutes. Garnish the prepared lobia makhani with green coriander and serve hot with roti, naan or cumin rice.
