Year Ender 2025: This year, AI companies delighted Indian users. Companies trying to outdo each other in the AI race made their subscription plans free, allowing users to enjoy premium features without paying. However, users aren't the only ones benefiting from this. AI companies will also receive data from millions of people to train their models. Let's find out which companies offered their subscriptions for free this year.
In November of this year, Google made its Gemini AI Pro subscription free for Jio users. Jio has approximately 500 million users in India, and they are getting this free plan for 18 months, priced at ₹1,950 per month. Last week, Google added India to the list of countries where it is offering significant discounts on its AI Plus package.
OpenAI
OpenAI has also made the use of its AI chatbot, ChatGPT, cheaper for Indian users. The company recently made the ChatGPT Go plan completely free. This plan, which costs ₹399 per month, is being offered free to all users for one year. In other countries, users are charged for this plan.
Perplexity AI
Like Google, Perplexity is also working with telecom company Airtel. Airtel users in India are being offered a Perplexity Pro subscription for free. This allows users to use this plan, which typically costs around ₹17,000 annually, for free.
Why are companies kind to India?
- The major reason companies are courting India is its user base. India has approximately 730 million smartphone users, who consume an average of 21GB of data per month. Offering their plans for free has helped companies rapidly expand their user base. After ChatGPT Go became free, the company's user base increased by 607 percent year-on-year. Similarly, Gemini's daily users have also increased by 15 percent.
