On Monday evening, many WhatsApp users in India were suddenly unable to access their accounts. The messaging app placed their accounts under review for 24 hours without any warning, preventing them from using many of the app's essential features. The first reports of this issue surfaced around 8 p.m. affected users saw a notification on their WhatsApp accounts stating that their accounts were being investigated under the platform's Terms of Service. During this time, many users' accounts were temporarily restricted.
What did users see when the review started?
A message appears on the app, which reads, "Account is under review. Request date: August 3, 2026. We are checking to see if your account activity and device information comply with our Terms of Service. We will usually provide you with the result within 24 hours."
