For adults: According to Ayurveda, the best time for adults to drink milk is before sleeping at night. The digestion process is faster while sleeping at night, due to which milk is easily digested. The properties present in milk are calming and sleep-inducing, which is beneficial for people suffering from insomnia. How much milk should one drink in one go?

A healthy adult should drink an average of 3 cups (about 750 ml) of milk per day, but this quantity depends on the age, physical needs and health of each person. Children from 12 months to 2 years should be fed 1 2/3 to 2 cups of milk daily, and children from 4 to 8 years should be given 2 1/2 cups of milk. Healthy adults are advised to drink about 3 cups (750 ml) of milk per day. While for some people, drinking 500 ml of milk can be beneficial for health.

Harmful effects of drinking too much milk

Drinking too much milk can cause acne and skin problems. Especially, an enzyme called lactase is needed to digest lactose. People who have high levels of lactose in their body may suffer from bloating, gas and diarrhea by drinking too much milk. High-fat milk can lead to weight gain. Bad cholesterol levels can increase and there may be a risk of heart diseases. According to many researches, drinking too much milk can increase the risk of prostate cancer. Apart from this, problems like mucus and hormonal imbalance can also occur due to excess milk.
