A two-match Test series is scheduled to be played between Pakistan and the West Indies, starting on Saturday, July 25th. However, before the start of the series, West Indies fast bowler Alzarri Joseph refused to play. Head coach Darren Sammy said this is a major loss for the team. The first match will be played at the Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad.
Speaking about Alzarri Joseph before the start of the series, Sammy said, "Mr. Joseph declined selection. That's the reality of the situation. He was selected. He's now coming back from injury and for the reasons that have followed, he declined selection.
Decision left to directors
The coach further said, "This decision is beyond my understanding. I leave this decision to the directors to find a solution so that contracted players can refuse selection."
When announcing the squad, the West Indies board stated in a release that Alzarri Joseph was unavailable due to personal reasons. However, the coach has now revealed otherwise.
Alzarri Joseph troubled by back injury
Alzarri missed the tours to India and New Zealand due to a back injury. However, he returned for the Test series against Sri Lanka, where he took six wickets. He then took part in the five-match ODI series against New Zealand, but has now refused to play against Pakistan.

Furthermore, he took 141 wickets in 85 ODI innings. The West Indies fast bowler took 62 wickets in 44 T20 International innings. His economy rate in T20 Internationals was 9.24, and his best figures were 5/40.
