Rural Business Ideas: If you too want to start your own business while living in a village, several government schemes can make your dream a reality. Central and state governments are offering various benefits, such as loans and subsidies, to encourage businesses and small industries in rural areas. This not only gives people the opportunity to start their own businesses but also creates new employment opportunities locally.
The recently released "State of Rural Entrepreneurship in India 2026" report states that there are approximately 43 million rural businesses in India. If these small rural businesses receive financial support, market access, and improved facilities, they could become a major source of employment for millions of people.
What are the schemes for starting a business in the village?
Prime Minister's Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP): This scheme provides loans up to ₹50 lakh for starting a new business. Eligible beneficiaries can also benefit from a 15% to 35% subsidy.

Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana (PMMY): This scheme provides unsecured funding for starting a small business. Under this scheme, you can avail loans up to ₹10 lakh for the Shishu and Kishor categories.
