WhatsApp has become much more than a platform for exchanging messages. While this feature can be useful, not everyone wants friends, colleagues or unfamiliar contacts to know when they last checked WhatsApp.

Fortunately, you can control who is allowed to view this information.

WhatsApp also provides separate controls related to your Online visibility, allowing users greater control over who can see their activity status.

What Is the WhatsApp About Section?

The About section is a short piece of profile information.

Depending on your account, it may display a standard message such as "Available" or another short description you have selected or entered.

Although an About message may seem harmless, users sometimes include personal details in this space. If your phone number is known to people outside your close circle, limiting who can view your About information may provide additional privacy.

How to Hide Your Last Seen on WhatsApp

Why Should You Restrict Your About Information?

Your About section doesn't necessarily need to be visible to everyone.

This becomes particularly relevant if your phone number is used for work, online services, business enquiries or other situations where people outside your personal circle may have it.

Keeping About visibility restricted to trusted contacts can reduce the amount of profile information available to unfamiliar people.

You should also avoid entering sensitive details such as your home address, passwords, financial information or other confidential data in the About section.

Review Other WhatsApp Privacy Settings Too

Last Seen and About aren't the only privacy controls worth checking.

While you're inside Settings > Privacy, review the visibility of your Profile Photo, Status, group-related controls and any other privacy options available in your current version of WhatsApp.

For example, you may not want unfamiliar users to see your profile picture or add you directly to unwanted groups.

Periodically reviewing these settings is useful because WhatsApp may introduce new privacy and security features through updates.

Take a Few Minutes to Strengthen Your WhatsApp Privacy

You don't have to delete your Last Seen or About information entirely to improve your privacy. WhatsApp's audience controls allow you to decide how widely these details are shared.

Go to Settings > Privacy and review Last Seen & Online and About. Choose whether the information should be available to everyone, only your contacts, selected contacts or nobody, depending on the options offered.
