Delhi University Advisory

Following the protests and violent events of July 20th at Jantar Mantar in the capital, Delhi, tensions remain high. Student protests are becoming increasingly violent, demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and the NEET controversy. In light of this situation, the Delhi University (DU) administration has taken a strict administrative step. The university has issued an official advisory to all its students and teaching staff, strictly prohibiting them from participating in any sit-ins or protests at Jantar Mantar.

Permission to stay away from Jantar Mantar protest

The Delhi University administration has issued a notice on Twitter (formerly Twitter) urging all its students and faculty to refrain from participating in any ongoing protests at Jantar Mantar. The university has clarified that personal safety is a top priority in the current circumstances. Given the recent police clashes and tense situation at Jantar Mantar, the administration does not want campus students to be exposed to any risk or physical injury. Therefore, students have been advised to maintain a distance from the controversial sites.

It can have a negative impact on studies and careers.

The university states that participating in any type of violent or illegal protests disrupts students' academic activities. Continued involvement in such protests not only harms their studies but can also have a profound negative impact on students' future and professional opportunities. The university notes that involvement in disciplinary or legal matters can tarnish students' career records, potentially permanently impacting their chances of finding jobs or pursuing higher education, both domestically and abroad.

Strict action will be taken against those involved in illegal demonstrations.

The university administration has issued a warning, making it clear that anyone violating the rules will not be spared. If any Delhi University student or faculty member is found participating in any illegal demonstration or unauthorized gathering at Jantar Mantar, strict legal and disciplinary action will be taken against them as per the rules. Violations of university rules and national laws could result in the filing of an FIR against the individual, as well as severe punitive action such as expulsion from the institution.
