Payment Bank closed: What will happen to your Paytm wallet and your UPI now?

The Delhi High Court has revoked Paytm Payments Bank's license for violating regulations and has now ordered its closure. But will your Paytm UPI and wallet work now?

Will there be no payment through Paytm now?

Ever since the RBI took action against Paytm Payments Bank, people have been confused. There's also the question: if the payments bank is shut down, will the Paytm wallet also be shut down? Will UPI payments become unavailable? If you're wondering about these issues, here's where you'll find answers.

What all was shut down?
Actually, the Paytm app hasn't been shut down. The action was taken against Paytm Payments Bank. Consequently, the bank couldn't add new customers and some banking services were suspended. However, this doesn't mean the Paytm app or UPI service has been completely shut down.

Will the Paytm Wallet work?
If you already have money in your Paytm Wallet, you can spend it. However, the rules for adding new money to the wallet or certain services related to it may change from time to time as per RBI guidelines. Therefore, please consult the official wallet updates for the latest regulations.

What impact has UPI payments had?
If you use UPI through the Wallet app, you don't need to worry in most cases. Paytm has partnered with several other banks to continue its UPI service. This means you can still make payments, send money, and receive money by scanning QR codes as before.

What if your bank account is linked?
If your UPI is linked to another bank account, such as SBI, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, or any other bank account, your UPI service will continue to function normally. Such users are not directly affected by Paytm Payments Bank's action.

Can I create a new wallet?
Wallet rules change from time to time. So, before opening a new wallet or adding balance to your wallet, be sure to check the latest information on the Paytm app or official website.
