Control PC Through Hand Gestures: The computer will run with hand gestures

Control PC Through Hand Gestures: Ever-advancing technology is turning movie-like things into reality. Like Iron Man, you too will soon be able to control your computer with hand gestures. You won't need to touch a mouse or press any buttons on your keyboard. Researchers have developed a system that allows you to control your computer with gestures using your smartwatch . It sounds completely out of a movie, but now it's about to become a reality. Let's learn in detail how this system will work.

The researcher developed this system.

Cornell University and KAIST University in South Korea have jointly developed a system called WatchHand. It transforms any regular smartwatch into a hand-tracking device. Remarkably, it requires no additional hardware. This technology uses AI-powered micro sonar to read hand movements and finger positions in real time.

This is how work will be done with the help of a smartwatch.

Any regular smartwatch has a built-in speaker and microphone. WatchHand utilizes both. This system emits sound waves from the smartwatch's speaker, which, upon striking the hand, are reflected back to the microphone, creating a unique echo pattern. The watch uses an AI algorithm to read this pattern. This algorithm will create a 3D map of your hand's position. All of this will happen on your wrist, so there's no need to worry about data security.

This is how the system will be controlled by gestures.

Talking about the use of WatchHand, it can seem very exciting. By double-tapping your finger, you can skip any song. Similarly, by slightly moving your hand, you can move the cursor without touching a mouse or touchpad. It can also act as a controller in AR and VR. This system will be especially beneficial for those who cannot use traditional input devices due to their physical disabilities.

Just a software update will fix it.

The WatchHand system doesn't require any expensive setup or a new smartwatch. The researchers say that a single software update could roll out this feature to millions of smartwatches. However, the system does have some limitations. Currently, it only works with Android smartwatches. Furthermore, it doesn't work properly when used while walking.
