Launched in February 2024, the Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme was given impetus in Budget 2024. Its aim is to install rooftop solar panels in one crore houses in the country, for which subsidy is also being given by the government. Now the question arises how should one choose solar products for Surya Ghar Yojana? Can subsidies get stuck due to these too?

How much subsidy is being given to Surya Ghar Yojana?

First of all, let us tell you how much subsidy is available in Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme. Let us tell you that in this scheme, if a person installs a solar system of up to two kilowatts, then he gets up to 60 percent subsidy. At the same time, up to 40 percent subsidy is given on installing a solar system of three kilowatts. This means that if about one lakh rupees are spent on installing a two-kilowatt solar system, then a subsidy of about 60 thousand rupees is available from the government. It is worth noting that if the electricity generated from the solar system remains even after consumption, then the government buys it.

How many people have applied so far?
The government has started planning to provide subsidies to those who apply for Surya Ghar Yojana as soon as possible. If media reports are to be believed, then there is a plan to give subsidies to the eligible people of this scheme in just seven days. Let us tell you that more than 1.30 crore people have applied for this scheme so far. It is also being claimed that people will get 300 units of free electricity under the Surya Ghar Yojana.

This is how to apply for the scheme.

For PM Surya Ghar Yojana, one has to apply at www.pmsuryaghar.gov.in. While filling out the application form, you have to provide your name, phone number, concerned number, consumer number, etc. Let us tell you that discoms are those companies which have the responsibility of distributing electricity to the consumers.

Can the subsidy get stuck due to the product?
Now the question arises whether the subsidy of Surya Ghar Yojana can be stuck due to the wrong product. In this case, Raman Bhatia, Founder and MD of Sarvotech Power Systems Limited, said that there may be a problem in getting a subsidy due to the wrong product. Subsidy of Surya Ghar Yojana is available only on the on-grid solar system. He said that solar on-grid inverter, solar hybrid inverter, solar micro inverter, battery energy storage systems solar pump controller, etc. are available in the market, with the help of which there is no problem in getting a subsidy.

These people do not get the benefit of the scheme.
The important thing is that tenants cannot apply for this scheme. If the landlord wants, he can get a solar system installed at his home and the tenant can use it. However, the income from the sale of electricity will go to the landlord's account only.
