Ever tasted this remix of seviyan with a South Indian tadka? Semiya Upma is a delicious dish that can be served for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It can be prepared in less than 30 minutes and is a wholesome meal in itself. All you need is vermicelli, some vegetables and some spices to make this upma dish. Be it summer or winter, this semiya upma can be made anytime. Adding peanuts and cashews adds a rich texture to this dish. We have added some basic vegetables to this recipe, however, you can customize the recipe as per your taste by adding vegetables of your choice and making it more nutritious. Be it, kids or adults, everyone will love this recipe. You can pack this dish in your kid's tiffin or serve it as an evening snack.
Heat 1 tbsp oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds, dry red chillies, curry leaves and finely chopped green chilies. Let the ingredients crackle for a minute. Now add chopped onions and fry for two minutes. Also add chopped carrots, green beans and capsicum. Fry for a minute and add salt as per taste.
Add semiya with 1 cup of water. Cover the pan with a lid and let it cook on medium heat. Meanwhile, heat 1 tbsp oil in a separate pan. Add peanuts and cashews. Fry them till their color turns golden brown.
Once vermicelli absorbs all the water, it is ready to be served. Add peanuts, cashews and black pepper powder. Give final mix. Your delicious semiya upma is now ready to serve.
