A large number of people have posted on the social media platform X, stating that the portal is not working properly, causing them difficulty filing their ITR and depositing their money.
According to users, many are experiencing problems logging into the portal. Some reported that the problem lasted for several hours, while others reported that the portal was completely down, causing problems with ITR filing and depositing funds.
What complaints are users making?
One user wrote on X, "The Income Tax portal has been down for two hours, and ITRs are not being filed or deposited. The portal should have been working properly at least on Income Tax Day." Another user wrote that the e-filing portal was down for a long time, which is why no returns were filed or funds were deposited.
Many people on social media also suggested that if this problem isn't resolved soon, the last date for filing ITR should be extended to July 31. However, the government or the Income Tax Department has not yet announced any extension of the deadline.
More than 3.5 crore ITRs have been filed so far
According to the Income Tax Department's website, over 35 million ITRs have been filed so far for the year 2026-27 . Every year, a large number of people file their returns as the deadline approaches. Consequently, problems often arise on the portal.
The Income Tax Department has not commented on the portal's problems or explained why. For now, taxpayers experiencing difficulties using the portal will have to wait for it to be fixed. Until the department provides an update, the deadline for filing ITRs will remain July 31st.
