BCCI on IPL 2025 DRS and Impact Rule: The IPL has become the first major cricket event to resume the use of saliva after the Covid-19 pandemic.

BCCI on IPL 2025 DRS and Impact Rule: IPL means Team India's festival, you must have heard this line, now there have been some changes in the rules of celebrating this festival, so some rules have been discussed and agreed upon, in fact, a meeting was held between BCCI and IPL captains in Mumbai in which the rules to be used during the game were discussed and it included discussions on applying saliva on the ball to impact player and DRS rules, some big decisions came out of the meeting and also brought changes with it.
This decision was taken on the impact player rule
The agenda for the captains' meeting also included the controversial impact player rule, which the BCCI has extended till at least 2027. Players like Rohit Sharma and more recently Hardik Pandya have expressed their objection to the playing strategy. "Although some people have objected to the impact player rule, it has benefited uncapped batsmen and bowlers who would not otherwise get a chance to play," the official said.
This big decision was taken regarding DRS
DRS extended to height and off-side wides. The BCCI also approved the use of DRS for height wides and wides outside the off-stump. "Hawk Eye and ball tracking will be used to decide on height wides and wides outside the off-stump," the official said.
Two balls will be used, know what are the rules
It was also decided that a ball would be changed after the 11th over in the second innings of the evening game due to dew. An official said, "This is not a change in the rule, it is an understanding for this year between the teams and the umpires.
Ban on using saliva on the ball lifted
The BCCI on Thursday lifted the ban on the use of saliva on the ball in the upcoming Indian Premier League after a majority of captains agreed to the proposal. The decision was taken at a captains' meeting in Mumbai. A top BCCI official told PTI, "The ban on saliva has been lifted. Most of the captains were in favour of the move." The International Cricket Council (ICC) had banned the age-old practice of applying saliva to shine the ball as a precaution during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In 2022, world cricket made the ban permanent. The IPL had also incorporated the ICC ban in its playing conditions after the pandemic, but its guidelines are outside the purview of the sport's governing body. With the change on Thursday, the IPL has become the first major cricket event to resume the use of saliva after the Covid-19 pandemic.
