Meta is reportedly experimenting with a new premium subscription model for Instagram that could significantly change how users interact with Stories and content on the platform. The feature, currently being tested under the name Instagram Plus, aims to offer a set of exclusive tools and controls available only to paying users.
Private Story Viewing: A Major Shift in User Privacy
One of the most talked-about features in this upcoming subscription is the ability to view someone’s Instagram Story without notifying them. Traditionally, Instagram shows a list of viewers to the Story creator, but this feature could allow subscribers to browse Stories anonymously.
If rolled out widely, this change could reshape user behavior on the platform. While it may appeal to those who value privacy, it could also raise concerns around transparency and digital etiquette.
Advanced Insights and Engagement Tracking
Instagram Plus is also expected to introduce enhanced analytics for users. Subscribers may be able to see how many times their Stories have been rewatched, offering deeper insights into content performance. This feature could be particularly useful for users who want to understand audience engagement more precisely, even if they are not professional creators.
Such analytics tools are currently limited or simplified for regular users, so this addition signals a shift toward more data-driven social media usage.
Greater Control Over Story Audience
Another key highlight of Instagram Plus is improved audience customization. Instead of relying only on the existing “Close Friends” feature, users may be able to create multiple custom audience lists. This would allow more flexibility in deciding who can view specific Stories.
For example, users could share personal updates with a small group while posting general content for a broader audience. This layered privacy control could enhance the overall user experience by offering more targeted sharing options.
Additionally, users might get the option to extend the visibility of their Stories beyond the standard 24-hour window. Reports suggest that Stories could remain active for an additional day, giving content more time to reach viewers.
Spotlight and Interactive Features
Instagram Plus is also expected to include features aimed at boosting engagement. Users may be able to “Spotlight” one Story per week, increasing its visibility among followers. This could help important posts stand out in a crowded feed.
On the interactive side, a new animated reaction feature called “Superlike” may be introduced. This would allow users to express stronger appreciation for a Story compared to standard reactions. Moreover, finding specific viewers in the Story view list could become easier with a search option, eliminating the need to scroll through long lists.
Pricing and Test Markets
According to reports, Meta is currently testing Instagram Plus in select countries, including Mexico, Japan, and the Philippines. The subscription pricing appears to vary by region:
- Around $2.20 per month (approximately ₹200) in Mexico
- About ¥319 (approximately ₹190) in Japan
- Around PHP 65 (approximately ₹100) in the Philippines
These relatively low pricing tiers suggest that Meta is aiming to make the feature accessible to a wide range of users while evaluating demand.
Different From Meta Verified
It is important to note that Instagram Plus is separate from Meta Verified, which primarily targets creators and businesses by offering verification badges and account support. In contrast, Instagram Plus appears to be designed for everyday users who want enhanced features and greater control over their social interactions.
What’s Next?
As of now, there is no official timeline for a global rollout. It remains unclear when or if Instagram Plus will launch in markets like India. However, the ongoing testing indicates that Meta is actively exploring new revenue streams and user experience upgrades across its platforms.
With features that blend privacy, personalization, and engagement tools, Instagram Plus could mark a significant evolution in how users interact on Instagram—if it successfully moves beyond the testing phase.
