Bank managers defrauded workers of Rs 7.3 crore by opening 37 accounts using their PAN and Aadhaar numbers.

If you've opened a bank account or taken out a loan, you likely know that certain documents are required, such as your Aadhaar card and PAN card. So, imagine if you provided your documents to someone to obtain a loan, but they were then used for cyber fraud; it could obviously cause problems.

A similar case has emerged from Delhi, where fraudsters allegedly lured daily wage laborers into obtaining their documents and opening bank accounts under the pretext of providing them loans. Surprisingly, the police are investigating cybercrime cases involving transactions totaling approximately ₹7.3 crore (approximately $7.3 crore) related to these accounts.

What was found during the investigation?

It should be noted that during the police investigation, they found a large number of documents. These include...

  • PAN Card – 60
  • Aadhaar Card – 63
  • 11 SIM cards
  • 7 Debit Cards
  • 7 cheque books
  • Passport-size photographs – 55

The game started on the pretext of a loan.

The police investigated an account linked to the Tri-City branch of a private bank. The investigation revealed the name of Mayank Cooper. The allegation is that the man lured daily wage laborers with the promise of loans and collected their identity documents and photographs.

Got many other things too?

The big thing is that during the investigation, the police not only found documents, but also seven mobile phones, Rs 60 thousand in cash, 150 grams of gold, and a laptop.

Between whom did the money transaction take place?

Using these items found during the investigation, the police are now trying to determine how the suspicious bank accounts were used and who the money transactions were between. During the investigation, the police found approximately 37 such bank accounts, which are reportedly connected to 99 cybercrime complaints filed across the country. The question then becomes, what is this case connected to and how did it begin?

What did the person do with the documents?

Bank accounts were opened using the workers' documents without their knowledge. However, it is not yet known how many accounts were used for the documents collected by the individual.

How was he arrested?

In fact, police arrested Mayank from Baba Haridas Nagar. They based their arrest on clues related to phone numbers and electronic devices. Significantly, during the investigation, police discovered that some account holders hadn't even visited the bank branch. Their address information was also incorrect. Subsequently, police discovered 17 more suspicious accounts.

Arrested by the police

Police have arrested six people in connection with the case, including Mayank Cooper and Shobhit Agarwal. Police are currently searching for the manager of the Tri-City branch.

Who opened the bank account?

The crucial question is: who helped open the bank accounts? According to the police, Saraswati Vihar branch manager Shobhit Agarwal is accused of opening the accounts in the absence of the account holders and forging signatures. Furthermore, he is also accused of introducing Mayank Kapoor to the manager of the Tri Nagar branch.

What happened to the money?

It should be noted that the police suspect that the proceeds from the transaction were given to bank officials, while the remaining funds were converted into USDT through a Trust Wallet. The investigation into this matter is still ongoing.

Do this before submitting documents in the name of loan.

  • First of all, check whether the company or person to whom you are giving the documents in the name of a loan is fake or not.
  • Also, check for what purpose your Aadhar card, PAN card or other documents are being taken from you.
  • You can also add a date to the documents and loan application so that it is not used for any other purpose.
  • Do not share your personal information with any unknown person.
