Surya achieved this position thanks to his AI startup company, Mercor, which he co-founded with two friends, Brendan Foody and Adarsh ​​Hiremath, in 2023. Mercor is an AI-based platform that uses an AI avatar to interview applicants and identify the right talent for companies.

It simplifies the recruitment process for companies. After receiving $350 million in Series C funding in October 2025, the company's valuation reached $10 billion. Currently, Foody is the CEO, Hiremath is the CTO, and Midha is the board chairman.

Family settled in America from Delhi

Born in Mountain View, Midha spent his childhood in California. His parents immigrated to the US from Delhi. He studied foreign studies at Georgetown University, while Hiremath was a Harvard student and Foody a Georgetown economics student. According to Forbes, Surya is the youngest billionaire in the world.
