FSSAI told the correct way to eat fruits and vegetables with stickers, you should also know

Nowadays it has become common to get fruits and vegetables with stickers. In such a situation, FSSAI has released a video to tell what is the right way to eat fruits and vegetables with stickers? If you also want to know the answer to this, then this article is for you.

Nowadays, fruits and vegetables with stickers have started coming in the market. Usually, after buying them, people just remove the stickers from them, wash them and use them. But the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) recently posted a video on social media explaining the correct way to eat fruits and vegetables with stickers.

FSSI told in the video that just washing the fruits and vegetables with stickers will not work because eating fruits and vegetables with stickers directly after washing them can sometimes be harmful, especially when the sticker is not removed properly or its adhesive glue is left on the surface of the fruit or vegetable. In such a situation, FSSI considers peeling them and eating them a safe way.

Why should the peel be removed?

These stickers often have the brand, price, and product code written on them, but their purpose is not food safety but marketing and tracking. The glue used in these stickers is not edible. Sometimes this glue remains on the skin of the fruit or vegetable, which can be harmful for the stomach, especially for children or people with weak immune systems.

Another thing is that many vegetables and fruits are wax coated before shipping so that they look fresh and do not spoil quickly. If there is a sticker stuck on it, then both wax and glue enter the body together, which is not healthy at all. Apart from this, many times chemicals and preservatives are also sprayed on these fruits and vegetables before packing them so that they do not spoil during transport.

Such peels are not good for the body

These chemicals can accumulate more on the surface with the sticker. In such a situation, if the fruit or vegetable is eaten without peeling, these chemicals can reach the body. Peeling not only removes the sticker and its glue, but also removes the wax present on the upper layer and any kind of dirt or pesticide residue. Especially when it is not possible to wash the fruit or vegetable thoroughly, such as when you are outside or traveling.

Although it is not necessary to peel every fruit or vegetable, but if there is a sticker on it, then it is better to peel it. This way you can avoid any unwanted chemical, wax or bacteria. Therefore, fruits and vegetables with stickers should always be washed thoroughly and peeled wherever possible before eating, so that there is no harm to health.
