(YouTube tightens rules)
YouTube New Rules: YouTube has become a widely used social media platform. Furthermore, content creators are earning substantial monthly income through YouTube. However, the company has now made it more difficult for new content creators to earn money. Indeed, YouTube has changed some rules, making it more difficult to earn money from the platform.
In fact, the company has announced a major change to its YouTube Partner Programme (YPP) rules. According to the new rules, new channels will now have to achieve double the watch hours to earn money from ads and YouTube Premium.
Which creators will not be affected?
For your information, this new rule will not affect creators who are already part of the YouTube Partner Program. These new rules are intended for those who plan to join the YouTube Partner Program in the future.
When will the new rules be implemented?
According to YouTube, these new rules will be implemented from February 1, 2027. With this rule in place, new content creators looking to earn money from their channels will now have to take a difficult path.
According to the new rules, creators must have 8,000 watch hours in the last year. Furthermore, if creators create short videos, they must have accumulated 20 million Shorts views in the last three months.
What will happen to creators with fewer views?
YouTube hasn't just tightened its rules, but it's also taking into account creators with fewer Shorts views. In fact, the company has announced that new monetization options will be made available to creators with fewer Shorts views. These options include YouTube Shopping bonuses, incentives for brand deals, and additional earning opportunities for creators who start or promote new trends.
The rules for Shorts have also changed.
According to reports, YouTube has also made a major change regarding Shorts monetization. Starting February 1, 2027, new rules will apply to those who earn money from creating Shorts videos. In fact, to continue sharing ad and subscription revenue from Shorts, creators will now have to prove every 90 days that they have 10 million Shorts views.
But if for some reason the creator is unable to get 1 crore views, then he will not be completely out of the YouTube Partner Program; rather, he will not earn until he gets 1 crore views.
What were the old rules?
For your information, the rules of the YouTube Partner Program were originally different. To be eligible for the program, creators had to have 4,000 watch hours or 10 million Shorts views on their channels. However, the company has now doubled this rule, which applies only to new content creators.
Other platforms are also changing the rules of earning
It's worth noting that YouTube isn't the only platform that has changed its monetization rules. In fact, other social media platforms are also transforming the creator economy. Recently, X has begun to prioritize original content in its creator payout system. Facebook has also introduced a new monetization program for creators.
It's clear that simply getting more views won't suffice in the future. Creators will need to focus on original content, audience engagement, and consistently high performance. This path will be especially difficult for new content creators, requiring them to put in more effort into their channel.
