Decision to cancel 20,000 flights amid fuel shortage
Lufthansa Airlines Cuts Down Flights: Amid the US-Iran war, fuel shortages are occurring worldwide. Consequently, fuel prices are rising day by day, and the impact is now being felt in the aviation industry. While news of layoffs at one airline surfaced recently, now there are reports that Lufthansa Airlines has also decided to cancel thousands of flights.
20,000 flights to be cancelled
Lufthansa, Germany's most prominent and largest airline, which has been operating in over 100 countries for years, appears to be facing difficult times. Reports suggest the airline has decided to cancel 20,000 flights on shorter routes this summer. This decision has been made due to the rising price of airline turbine fluid (Airline Turbine Flu).
Will this move lead to savings?
This move by the airline will result in a marginal reduction of less than 1% in the group's total capacity, measured in terms of available seat kilometers (ASK). However, it will have a significant impact on costs. Lufthansa estimates that it will save more than 40,000 metric tons of jet fuel by October.
Passengers will face inconvenience.
The first phase of this change has begun. Approximately 120 flights are being cancelled daily until May 31st, and affected passengers have been notified. Several routes have been temporarily removed from the airline's schedule. While this move will cause some inconvenience to passengers, management has made this decision considering the current circumstances. Further changes are expected in the future.
