China Visa-Free Entry: It may become easier for foreign travellers to visit China in the future. The Chinese government plans to take major steps to simplify the visa process for international travellers. This will include expanding the scope of the visa-free entry policy and strengthening digital border services. The government states that these changes aim to make the process of entering China faster, easier, and more convenient for foreign travelers.
Visa-Free Entry policy will be expanded
China's Ministry of Public Security said the country is preparing to expand visa-free entry rules for foreign travelers and modernize border services to help international travelers complete immigration procedures more quickly and easily.
Digital travel documents will get a boost
The government also plans to promote the use of digital travel documents such as e-passports and e-permits. This aims to reduce paperwork and simplify the travel process for travellers. Additionally, more smart border channels will be developed for eligible travellers, thereby speeding up the immigration process.
Visa and residence services will be completely online.
The Chinese government is also working to make visa, residence permit, and other immigration services completely online. This is expected to make the application process much easier and faster than before. The government aims to provide better services to foreign nationals in a shorter time.
Entry rules have been simplified even before
This announcement comes at a time when China has already eased entry regulations for foreign travellers. The government has clarified that it will continue to improve visa and residency policies, and the digital immigration system to provide better services to travellers arriving from abroad.
Which countries are currently getting Visa-Free Entry?
Currently, citizens of 50 countries have unilateral visa-free entry into China. Travelers from 55 countries can enjoy visa-free transit for up to 240 hours through China's 65 ports of entry.
The number of foreign tourists is increasing in China
The relaxed visa regulations are also having an impact on the number of foreign travellers. During the summer, Beijing's entry and exit points have seen a significant increase in passenger traffic. The capital's streets and major tourist destinations are teeming with foreign tourists, businesspeople, and those on study tours.
23 million foreigners arrived in China in the first half of 2026
According to the National Immigration Administration, approximately 23 million foreign travellers arrived in China in the first half of 2026 (H1 2026). This figure represents a 20.4 percent increase compared to 2025. According to officials, this increase is primarily due to the continued relaxation of visa and entry regulations. The largest number of foreign travellers to China were citizens of South Korea, Russia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore, the United States, Japan, Mongolia, and Australia.
