Blocking someone on Instagram can sometimes seem like the easiest option, but it's not necessary in every situation. Sometimes you don't want to completely distance yourself from someone's posts or profile, but you also don't want to be bothered by their comments, messages, or online activity.
In such a situation, Instagram's Restrict feature can be very useful.

The special thing about the Restrict feature is that the other person generally does not know that you have restricted him.
This means you can limit the interaction that account has with you without any major controversy or outright blocking.
Will comment, but won't be immediately visible
If you've restricted an account and they comment on your post, their comment may be limited instead of immediately becoming publicly visible. You can review and approve it yourself or ignore it.
The advantage of this is that there is no need to take immediate action like blocking any harassing comment.
Additional privacy will also be available in messages
Messages from Restricted accounts may go to Message Requests instead of directly to your main inbox like normal chats.
Additionally, the other person won't be able to see whether you've read their message or not. They may also limit access to certain information about your activity and online presence.
How to Restrict Someone?
There are several ways to restrict a profile on Instagram. The easiest way is to open the person's profile and select Restrict from the available options.
You can also manage this through the Restrict options in your Settings and Privacy.
What is the difference between Block and Restrict?
Blocking prevents the other person from accessing your account and content normally. Restrict is a different option. It allows you to limit the person's interactions with you without removing them completely.
