(Now scam messages will stop in a jiffy)
Android Tips: Technology has become quite advanced these days. Cybercriminals are now using new techniques to defraud people. Sometimes they try to steal personal information by promising bank account details, sometimes by KYC updates , or by luring people with the promise of winning a prize. Often, users are at a loss to distinguish between genuine and fraudulent messages.
In this connection, let us tell you that if you are continuously receiving suspicious messages from unknown numbers on your Android phone, then today we are going to tell you about a method with the help of which you will also be able to stop scam SMS on your phone.
Why do scam messages come?
There are many reasons behind constantly receiving spam or scam SMS messages. You may have entered your mobile number on an inappropriate website. Sometimes, data breaches can also expose your personal information to cybercriminals. Furthermore, if your mobile number is posted on a public platform, the likelihood of receiving such messages increases.
What is the Message Protection feature?
For your information, NordVPN has added a Message Protection feature to its Android app. This feature scans incoming SMS messages and immediately alerts users if a message is suspected of being fraudulent.
This system checks the link, incorrect words, and sender information in the message. If a link has been previously identified as dangerous or the sending number has a suspicious track record, the app displays an alert. This is intended to alert users to avoid clicking on a fraudulent link.
How to activate it
It's worth noting that this feature doesn't turn on automatically. If you have a supported NordVPN plan, you'll need to turn it on manually.
Follow these steps for this
- Open the NordVPN app.
- Go to the Products section below.
- There, search for the Message Protection option.
- Turn on the toggle next to it.
- If you want, you can also activate the Call Protection feature.
- After this, monitoring of incoming SMS will start.
What does this feature do when a scam is detected?
If a message is found to be suspicious, the app doesn't automatically delete it or immediately block the number. Instead, Ace displays a warning message on the screen indicating that the message may be fraudulent. The decision is then entirely up to the user whether to delete, block, or ignore the message. The advantage of this system is that it reduces the risk of accidentally deleting an important message.
For which users is this feature available?
For your information, this feature also has some limitations. In fact, it's not free. To use it, you need to subscribe to a paid NordVPN plan that includes call and message protection. Furthermore, this feature is only available for Android users. iPhone users cannot currently use this feature. Furthermore, it only works with normal SMS. This feature doesn't verify messages received on WhatsApp, Telegram, or other messaging apps.
You can stay safe without spending any money.
Even if you don't want to use a paid service, there are still plenty of options available on Android phones. In fact, most Android smartphones come with the Google Messages app, which offers features like Spam Protection and Scam Protection.
Steps to turn it on
- Open the Google Messages app.
- Tap the profile icon at the top.
- Go to Messages Settings.
- Select Protection & Safety option.
- Turn on Spam Protection.
