Design of the robotaxi
This robot taxi doesn't look like a regular car. It resembles a small, square box or carriage. There's no driver's seat inside. It has two facing seats, which can comfortably accommodate four people. Furthermore, the car has no front or rear. It looks the same from both sides and can move in both directions without making a U-turn. Operating this robot taxi requires artificial intelligence, not humans. Multiple high-tech cameras are installed all around it, allowing it to constantly monitor pedestrians, other vehicles, traffic signals, and road markings.
This taxi uses lidar sensor technology. Lidar sensors emit laser light around the car. This light bounces off objects in front of it, allowing the computer to determine the distance of any object or person from the car. This technology allows for clear vision even in the dark. Radar sensors also measure the speed and distance of objects around the car even in bad weather, such as heavy rain or fog.
Why is there no need for a driver?
This robotaxi doesn't require a driver because it's built with Level 5 autonomous technology. This means the vehicle can handle itself completely in all road conditions and in all weather conditions. It also has a highly accurate digital map of the entire city, allowing it to anticipate which turns to take and where potholes or traffic jams might be present.
Amazon has placed great emphasis on safety. All the car's key systems, including the brakes, steering, and computer, have been installed in duplicate. If one system malfunctions while the vehicle is in motion, the other system immediately takes over and stops passengers safely. Furthermore, a remote control team constantly monitors the taxi on a computer screen, allowing it to stop from anywhere if necessary.
