According to Apple, this new feature will work on AirPods Pro 2 and later models. The device must have the latest firmware and be connected to an iPhone or iPad running iOS 18 or iPadOS 18.

The company says the entire test takes about five minutes and eliminates the need to visit a clinic or hospital. Users can perform the test from the comfort of their homes.

How will this new feature work?

During the hearing test, the user will need to wear AirPods. Afterward, different audio tones will be played in each ear. The user will need to respond to each sound.

After the test is complete, the system will generate a detailed report that includes the hearing level in both ears, the degree of hearing loss, necessary recommendations, and an Audiogram Chart. This chart shows hearing ability at different frequencies. All this data will be securely saved in the Apple Health App. If needed, the user can also share it with a doctor or health expert.

Hearing problems will be detected in the initial stages itself.

Apple believes that people often go unnoticed for a long time, that their hearing is gradually deteriorates. This feature will help identify problems at an early stage.

The vice president of the company's Health and Fitness team said that the purpose of technology should be to give people better control over their health. This feature was developed with that in mind.

AirPods will also work as a hearing aid.

With this update, AirPods Pro will also be able to function as a Hearing Assistance device for people with mild or moderate hearing loss. Based on a personal hearing profile created during testing, AirPods will help make surrounding sounds and conversations clearer and louder in real time. This could make everyday conversations easier to understand.
