Tanmay will return as an umpire in IPL
Tanmay, born in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, will be seen umpiring in IPL 2025. With this, he will become the first player who has umpired in addition to playing in the IPL. The 35-year-old batsman was a part of Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings). He played for this team in 2008 and 2009.
Retired in 2020
Tanmay announced his retirement from all formats of cricket in 2020. While playing for Uttar Pradesh, he scored 4918 runs in 90 first class matches. Announcing his retirement, he wrote on Twitter (earlier Twitter) - 'I think I have made such memories related to cricket inside and outside the field that will remain with me for a lifetime. I have seen new dreams and have great ambitions for it. Now it is time for the next chapter.'
Tanmay could not make it to the senior team
Tanmay was the top scorer of the tournament with 262 runs in the Under-19 World Cup played in Malaysia in 2008. He made an important contribution of 43 runs in the final.
