Diabetes is increasing rapidly in India. Bad lifestyle, stress, unhealthy eating habits, and less physical activity are the main reasons for this. Type 2 diabetes occurs when the body is unable to use insulin properly.

Diabetes has become a very common disease in India, with millions of people suffering from it. From time to time, many studies keep coming out about this disease, but recently a new report submitted to the central government has caught everyone's attention. This report claims that regular yoga practice can reduce the risk of type-2 diabetes by up to 40%. The special thing is that it is more beneficial for those people who have a higher risk of this disease, such as those who already have a diabetic in their family. This report is based on yoga and prevention of type-2 diabetes and has been prepared scientifically.
What is special in the report?
This report has been prepared by the Research Society for the Study of Diabetes in India (RSSDI), which is headed by renowned endocrinologist Dr. S.V. Madhu. This is the first time that a scientific study has linked yoga to the prevention of type-2 diabetes. Till now most of the research was focused on people who are already suffering from diabetes. But this new report focuses on those people who are more likely to get diabetes.
The report mentions some special yoga asanas, which have proved to be helpful in preventing this disease. These asanas not only improve physical health, but also help in reducing stress and improving the use of insulin in the body. However, this report is currently based on non-clinical observations and has been sent for further tests. This means that in the coming time, there will be more in-depth research on this, so that the benefits of yoga can be understood more clearly.
A confluence of yoga and modern science
Union Science and Technology Minister Dr Jitendra Singh, who himself is a senior diabetologist, has called this report a scientific validation of India's traditional health system. He said that this study shows that ancient disciplines like yoga combined with modern science can provide effective solutions to health problems. Dr Singh also said that the Department of Biotechnology is doing further research in this direction to understand how effective yoga and other traditional remedies can be in the prevention and treatment of diabetes.
Increased risk of diabetes
Diabetes is increasing rapidly in India. Bad lifestyle, stress, wrong eating habits and less physical activity are the main reasons for this. Type-2 diabetes occurs when the body is unable to use insulin properly or does not produce enough insulin. This disease not only affects physical health, but can also lead to serious complications like heart disease, kidney problems and eye diseases. In such a situation, natural and cheap remedies like yoga can make a big difference in preventing this disease.
Why is yoga beneficial?
Yoga not only keeps the body fit, but also improves mental health. It reduces stress, which is a major cause of diabetes. Some yoga postures, such as Surya Namaskar, Dhanurasana, Bhujangasana and Paschimottanasana, improve blood circulation in the body and increase insulin sensitivity. Apart from this, practices like Pranayama and meditation help reduce stress, which helps in controlling blood sugar levels.
