World Sexual Health Day 2025: This day is a witness to the fact that the way of talking about sexual health is changing. Gen Z now prefers to seek advice on dating apps and online platforms instead of doctors.
World Sexual Health Day is celebrated every year on 4 September. Its purpose is to increase awareness about sexual health among people and change the social judgment related to it. In the changing times, especially in the new generation, the way of talking about sex and relationships has completely changed. While earlier people used to take advice from doctors or elders in the family, now the young generation is resorting to dating apps and online platforms for this.
Why Gen Z is choosing dating apps
Easy and economical
To meet a doctor, one needs to make an appointment, travel, and sometimes wait for a long time, whereas dating apps are available 24*7 with just one click. This is the reason why youngsters find them more convenient.
Privacy Guarantee
Even today in our society, it are often hesitant to talk openly about sexual health. On the other hand, on dating apps, people can ask questions without revealing their identity. This makes them free from the fear of being judged. This is also a big reason why Gen Z is turning to dating apps instead of doctors for sexual health.
Relief from social judgement
In a country like India, talking openly about sex is still seen with judgement. Many times even doctors unknowingly express their personal opinion on this. On the other hand, talking about intimacy and relationships on dating apps is considered normal.
Peer-to-peer connections
Gen-Z finds the advice she gets from people like her more relatable. In the community space created on dating apps, young people share each other's experiences, which she finds more comfortable than professional guidance.
A sign of changing thinking
Many young people are not able to openly ask questions related to contraception, casual sex or LGBTQ+ from a doctor. On many dating apps, discussions on these issues happen in a comfortable and more acceptable environment. Due to which Gen Z are taking advice from dating apps instead of doctors regarding sexual health.
