In a bizarre turn of events from Etawah district in Uttar Pradesh, a man has offered a cash reward of ₹20,000 to anyone who helps him find his missing wife, who allegedly ran away with her uncle (her husband's maternal uncle). The incident has left the local community stunned and once again spotlighted the rising number of unusual elopement cases in the state.
Shocking Elopement from Usrahar Village
The case is from a village under Usrahar police station in Etawah. The woman, a mother of three children, allegedly fled the house with her two daughters, leaving behind her son. What’s more, she didn’t go empty-handed—she reportedly took away gold jewellery worth lakhs, including four rings, a mangalsutra, a necklace, and ₹50,000 in cash.
According to her husband, the incident occurred on April 3, when he had gone to Kanpur for work—he supports his family by driving a car. On returning home, he found that his wife and two daughters were missing, while his son was still at home.
Husband’s Desperate Search
Since that day, the man has been knocking on the doors of the police station and local authorities, hoping for help in tracing his wife. However, even after more than a month, there has been no progress. Initially, he alleged that the police refused to register a case, and only later filed a missing person complaint after altering the original report.
Frustrated by the lack of police action, the husband has now announced a ₹20,000 cash reward to anyone who can help locate his wife and the man she ran away with.
Police Claim Search is Underway
Speaking on the matter, the Usrahar police station in-charge said that special teams have been deployed to search for the woman and the accused relative. “Efforts are being made and they will be found soon,” he said.
A Pattern of Unusual Affairs?
Such stories are not new to Uttar Pradesh. In recent years, the state has seen a spurt in unusual relationship scandals—from mother-in-law and son-in-law affairs to sibling-in-law elopements. However, the case of a woman eloping with her husband’s maternal uncle has shocked even the most seasoned locals.
Public Reaction and Legal Complications
The case has not just become a topic of gossip in the village but has raised serious questions about the role of law enforcement in missing person cases, especially involving women. The fact that the victim's complaints were allegedly ignored for days has added to the outrage.
Legal experts suggest that if the woman left willingly, it may be treated as a domestic dispute, unless charges of kidnapping, theft, or abduction are proven. The presence of minor children and theft of valuables, however, may tilt the case toward criminal charges.
What’s Next?
The husband continues his efforts independently while awaiting help from the police. With a cash reward now announced, the case is likely to get more attention from locals and law enforcement.
