Where do Modi cabinet leaders invest their money?
People invest to secure their future. Some like to invest in the stock market, while others invest in real estate. But have you ever wondered where prominent politicians and ministers invest their money? Let's find out.
Ministers in the Modi cabinet declared their assets for the financial year 2025-26. An analysis of their declared assets reveals that more than half of the cabinet ministers do not invest in the stock market at all, preferring instead to invest in traditional and safe options such as fixed deposits (FDs), land, jewellery, and cattle.
FD is the most preferred option
According to the asset information provided by cabinet ministers for the financial year 2025-26, eight out of 30 ministers have invested exclusively in fixed deposits. They have no involvement in stock market investments. Meanwhile, 15 ministers have invested in the market, with five of these holdings in mutual funds.
Several senior leaders, including Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Health Minister J.P. Nadda, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal, Panchayati Raj Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh, Civil Aviation Minister K.R. Naidu, Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram, and Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh, have invested exclusively in fixed deposits. They have no investments in the stock market.
Who has invested money where?
S. Jaishankar has invested ₹5.59 crore in fixed deposits and ₹50 lakh in bonds of the state-owned company IRFC, where the risk of loss is zero. Similarly, J.P. Nadda has included a gold car (Innova) and real estate in his investment portfolio. He used a bank loan and personal savings to build his house, demonstrating the financial discipline of a typical middle-class Indian.
Where has Amit Shah invested?
In his affidavit, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has disclosed investments of ₹2.23 crore in listed securities and ₹3.07 lakh in non-listed securities. Listed securities refer to financial instruments registered on officially recognized stock exchanges such as the NSE and BSE. Non-listed securities are not listed on any public exchange. Similarly, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has invested ₹9.70 crore in listed securities and ₹1.01 lakh in non-listed securities.
They are also interested in the market.
Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Patil has purchased shares in listed companies such as Adani Power, Gujarat Alkalies and Chemicals Limited, State Bank of India, and Reliance Industries. He also has investments in unlisted companies, including Shri Sai Ashish Dyeing and Printing Mills Private Limited, Shri Sai Publications Private Limited, and Avneep Silk Mills Private Limited.
Women and Child Development Minister Annapurna Devi has purchased 540 shares of ONGC, worth ₹1.33 lakh. She owns 1,500 shares of SBI, worth ₹15.65 lakh. She owns 24 shares of JioFIN, worth ₹5,826. She has 48 shares of Reliance, worth ₹63,792, and 27 shares of Reliance Power, worth ₹661.77. She has also made five fixed deposits, totaling ₹28.25 lakh.
