Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan are one of the most celebrated couples in Bollywood. Their grand wedding in 2007 was the talk of the town, and even after nearly two decades, they continue to grab headlines—sometimes for their professional work, sometimes due to personal life speculations.
Recently, rumors of a possible rift between the couple surfaced again. However, the duo appeared together at two back-to-back family weddings, dancing and smiling, effectively putting an end to the divorce chatter—at least for now.
But amid all this, an old and lesser-known incident from their wedding has come back into discussion: why veteran actor Shatrughan Sinha returned their wedding card.
Not an Invitation, Just Blessings
In a candid conversation on Karan Johar’s talk show 'Koffee with Karan', Abhishek Bachchan once revealed an incident from his wedding that surprised many fans.
Back in April 2007, when the Bachchan household was preparing for Abhishek and Aishwarya’s big day, there was an emotional reason behind keeping the ceremony a low-key affair. Abhishek’s grandmother, Teji Bachchan, was critically ill at the time.
Due to this, Amitabh Bachchan decided not to invite too many people to the actual wedding ceremony. Instead, the family sent out special cards requesting blessings, not attendance.
Abhishek shared, “We sent out cards requesting blessings because we didn't want to host a big gathering. My grandmother was unwell, and we were being very careful and respectful of her condition.”
Shatrughan Sinha's Reaction: Card Returned
While most guests understood the intention and graciously sent their best wishes, one legendary figure didn’t quite approve—Shatrughan Sinha.
Abhishek revealed on the show, “Everyone was okay with it, but Shatrughan Sinha ji did not take it well and actually sent the card back. He is a very senior person, and he’s entitled to his views.”
The actor added with humility, “If he didn't understand our reason, perhaps it was our shortcoming in communication. We certainly didn’t mean to offend anyone.”
18 Years of Togetherness
Abhishek and Aishwarya tied the knot on April 20, 2007, in an intimate ceremony at their residence. Over the years, the couple has maintained a dignified silence when faced with media gossip, choosing instead to let their actions do the talking.
On April 20, 2025, they celebrated 18 years of marriage. The couple is proud parents to daughter Aaradhya Bachchan, born in 2011.
Despite being under constant public scrutiny, Abhishek and Aishwarya have handled their relationship with grace. Their rare but powerful public appearances as a family continue to melt fans’ hearts.
