WhatsApp Scam Alert Feature: WhatsApp's new feature will protect you from scams

WhatsApp Scam Alert Feature: Cyber criminals do not shy away from using any platform to scam people. Since WhatsApp is one of the most used platforms, scammers keep a close eye on it. Scammers try to trap people by adopting different methods including digital arrest, sending phishing links in the name of fake job offers and investment schemes, luring people with benefits of fake government schemes etc. In view of the ever-increasing incidents, the company is working on a new feature called WhatsApp Scam Alert. With its help, the user will be able to detect suspicious messages and will be able to avoid scams.

How will the scam alert feature work?

According to reports, this feature is being developed for the Android version of WhatsApp. It will detect fraudulent messages from unknown contacts and display a warning alert. Users will also have the option to block or report the sender. If users deem the message safe, they can continue chatting without further action. Like voice transcripts, this feature will operate entirely on the user's device. This means that messages will not be sent to Meta's servers for analysis. The entire process for detecting messages and providing alerts will be on-device. This will also not impact end-to-end encryption.

The scam alert feature will be optional.

It's being reported that this feature will be completely optional. It will be off by default. Anyone wishing to use it will need to enable it in the app settings. This feature is currently under development and will be rolled out to beta users in the next few days. Once testing is complete, WhatsApp will launch it in a phased manner for all users.

Paid subscriptions are also being rolled out

WhatsApp continuously introduces new features, and in this series, the company is rolling out WhatsApp Plus . This is a paid subscription plan that provides users with additional features and customization options. Its price in Europe is approximately ₹280. It has not yet been launched in India. It will soon be available to Indian users.
