India's push towards digital governance continues to expand, with platforms such as UMANG and DigiLocker making government services and official documents easier to access online. Millions of citizens can now use their smartphones or computers to complete tasks that previously required visits to government offices.
According to government figures cited in Parliament, the UMANG platform has crossed 11.66 crore registered users and currently provides thousands of central and state government services. DigiLocker has expanded even further, with its registered user base crossing 72 crore.
Alongside these platforms, the government is using Common Service Centres (CSCs) to extend digital services to rural and remote areas where direct access to smartphones, computers or reliable internet connectivity may be limited.
UMANG Crosses 11.66 Crore Registered Users
According to information presented in the Rajya Sabha by Electronics and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on August 7, 2026, UMANG has recorded more than 11.66 crore registered users.
The platform has also handled approximately 798 crore transactions during the past three years, reflecting the growing use of online government services.
As of July 31, 2026, UMANG offered 2,575 active services. These included 880 services from the central government and another 1,695 services linked to state governments.
| UMANG Details | Figures |
|---|---|
| Registered Users | 11.66+ crore |
| Transactions in Last 3 Years | Around 798 crore |
| Active Services | 2,575 |
| Central Government Services | 880 |
| State Government Services | 1,695 |
UMANG, short for Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance, is designed to provide access to multiple public services through a single digital platform.
Why UMANG Is Becoming a Government Services Super App
Instead of requiring citizens to use separate applications and portals for different government departments, UMANG brings a wide range of services together.
Depending on availability, users can access services related to government schemes, pensions, utility services, certificates and other citizen facilities from a single interface.
The objective is to make interactions with government departments simpler and reduce the need for physical visits for services that can be completed digitally.
The availability of more than 2,500 active services highlights how the platform has evolved into an important gateway for India's expanding digital governance ecosystem.
DigiLocker User Base Crosses 72 Crore
DigiLocker has also recorded significant growth.
According to the figures cited, the digital document platform now has more than 72.43 crore registered users.
Around 72.86 crore document-access transactions were recorded over the previous three years.
The platform provides access to 5,437 types of documents and services, including 661 associated with central government entities and 4,776 connected with state governments.
| DigiLocker Details | Figures |
|---|---|
| Registered Users | 72.43+ crore |
| Document Access Transactions in 3 Years | Around 72.86 crore |
| Documents/Services Available | 5,437 |
| Central Government Documents/Services | 661 |
| State Government Documents/Services | 4,776 |
DigiLocker allows citizens to access and use digital versions of eligible official documents, reducing dependence on physical paperwork.
More Than 4 Lakh CSCs Operating at Gram Panchayat Level
Digital governance is not limited to people who can independently use apps and websites.
Common Service Centres have become an important part of delivering digital facilities in rural India. As of June 30, 2026, 4,07,122 CSCs were operating at the gram panchayat level across the country, according to the figures provided.
Of these, 70,069 centres were being operated by women Village Level Entrepreneurs (VLEs).
CSCs can help citizens access a variety of government and private-sector facilities, including banking, insurance, financial services, pension-related facilities and utility payments.
They are particularly useful for citizens who may not have easy access to a computer, smartphone or reliable digital connectivity.
Digital India Pushes More Public Services Online
The government launched the Digital India programme in July 2015 with the broader objective of expanding digital access, improving the delivery of public services and using technology to empower citizens.
Platforms such as UMANG and DigiLocker, along with the CSC network, have become important components of this digital ecosystem.
The wider goal is to allow citizens to access essential services more quickly while reducing paperwork and unnecessary visits to government offices.
Aadhaar, eSign and APIs Support Digital Services
India's online public-service ecosystem is also supported by other components of digital public infrastructure.
These include Aadhaar, eSign, API Setu, digital document verification systems and consent-based data-sharing mechanisms.
Integration between such systems can make it easier to verify identity, authenticate documents and complete transactions electronically.
For citizens, the practical advantage is the ability to complete more government-related processes online instead of repeatedly submitting physical copies of the same documents.
Government Focuses on Digital Literacy in Rural India
Providing digital infrastructure is only one part of expanding online government services. Citizens also need the skills to use these platforms safely and effectively.
The government has therefore promoted digital literacy through awareness initiatives and programmes such as Pradhan Mantri Gramin Digital Saksharta Abhiyan (PMGDISHA).
Making services available in multiple Indian languages is another step intended to improve accessibility for people who may not be comfortable using English.
Government Services Becoming Easier to Access
The latest figures show the increasing scale of India's digital public-service infrastructure. With 11.66 crore registered users and 2,575 active services, UMANG is emerging as a major single-window platform for government services.
At the same time, DigiLocker's user base of more than 72.43 crore demonstrates growing adoption of digital documents.
Combined with more than four lakh gram-panchayat-level CSCs, these platforms are helping create a system where citizens can access government services online or receive assisted digital support closer to where they live.
