Main changes in players' salary rules
Salary cap for foreign players: Foreign players will not be able to earn more than Indian players. This is a big change from the previous season, where top foreign talents used to get the highest salaries.
Maximum salary cap: In the upcoming mini auction for IPL 2026, foreign players will be placed on a maximum salary of ₹18 crore. This is in line with the retention cap set for key Indian players like Virat Kohli.
Auction Restrictions: During the auction, no foreign player can be bid for an amount higher than the highest retention price or the salary of the most expensive Indian player
Team Budget Adjustment: Teams can bid on foreign players up to the maximum allowed amount, but any excess over the stipulated amount will be deducted from their purse.
Player Welfare Fund: The excess amount deducted from the team budget will be allocated to the BCCI for player welfare, reinforcing the league's commitment to its athletes.
Mandatory Registration: Foreign players will have to register for the mega auction to participate in the mini auction. If a player has valid reasons such as a health issue, they can inform about these through their board, which will be considered.
