In a shocking incident from Banswara district, Rajasthan, a family's wedding preparations turned into despair when thieves looted gold and silver jewellery worth nearly ₹40 lakh just two days before the big day. The theft took place in the home of Mahipal Seth, a resident of Ghatol town, whose niece is set to be married on April 25.
Theft Discovered by Neighbors
According to police reports, the incident occurred late Tuesday night. The thieves broke into the house by forcing open the main door and then accessed the upper-floor room, where they smashed open a safe to steal its contents. The robbery was discovered the following morning when neighbors noticed the broken locks and alerted Mahipal Seth.
When Mahipal arrived with his family, they found the house in disarray and the safe emptied. The thieves managed to escape with 30 tolas of gold, eight kilograms of silver, and ₹3 lakh in cash.
Wedding Dreams Shattered
The stolen jewellery belonged to the three daughters-in-law of the household and had been stored in their old residence while they were temporarily staying elsewhere. With the wedding just around the corner, the theft has left the family devastated and facing a financial crisis.
“We were preparing for a joyful celebration, and now we are trying to recover from this terrible shock,” Mahipal told police.
Police Investigation Underway
SHO Praveen Singh and his team from Ghatol Police Station reached the scene to investigate. CCTV footage from the surrounding area is being reviewed to identify the culprits. Police have assured that they are working swiftly and expect to make a breakthrough soon.
As wedding season kicks off across the country, this incident raises serious concerns over the rising number of targeted thefts in festive households. Authorities are urging families to remain vigilant and avoid keeping large amounts of jewellery or cash in unguarded homes.
