Petrol and diesel prices continue to vary across Indian cities, with a few locations recording minor revisions on September 19, 2026. While fuel rates remained unchanged in several major cities, consumers in parts of Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka saw small increases or reductions.

Petrol prices witnessed limited movement across most of the listed cities. Bengaluru recorded the biggest increase, with the rate rising by 86 paise to ₹111.68 per litre. By contrast, motorists in Bhagalpur received some relief as petrol became cheaper by 76 paise, bringing the price down to ₹113.61 per litre.

Muzaffarpur also registered a reduction of 42 paise, while Patna saw a marginal decline of 2 paise. Prices remained unchanged in New Delhi, Kolkata, Lucknow, Gurugram, Ranchi and several other cities.

Diesel rates record small revisions

Diesel prices followed a similar pattern, with most cities reporting either no revision or only a marginal change. Bhagalpur recorded the sharpest fall among the listed locations, where diesel became cheaper by 71 paise and was priced at ₹99.59 per litre.

Muzaffarpur saw a reduction of 40 paise, taking its diesel rate to ₹100.05 per litre. Bengaluru, on the other hand, registered an increase of 79 paise, pushing the price to ₹99.56 per litre.

Diesel prices remained steady in major centres such as New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Lucknow, Ranchi, Gurugram and Bhopal.

Why fuel prices differ between cities

Petrol and diesel do not have a single uniform retail price across India. The amount paid by motorists includes the base fuel cost, central duties, state-level taxes, freight charges and the dealer’s commission. Since state and local tax structures differ, neighbouring cities can also have different fuel rates.

Transportation expenses are another factor. Cities located farther from fuel depots or supply centres may have slightly higher prices. This is why checking the rate applicable to a specific city is more useful than relying on a national average.
