In the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack, India has imposed a ban on trade with Pakistan, which could lead to price hikes in several items previously imported from across the border. While India does not heavily rely on imports from Pakistan, certain goods may face price increases due to the ban.
Commodities That Could Become Expensive:
- Rock Salt (Sendha Namak)
Known for its use during fasting and in Ayurvedic treatments, pink Himalayan rock salt, imported from the Khewra mines in Pakistan, is likely to become more expensive due to the import ban. - Multani Mitti (Fuller's Earth)
Widely used for skincare, Multani mitti was another product imported from Pakistan. With its availability reduced, prices may rise, particularly for those who rely on it for cosmetic and therapeutic purposes. - Cotton
Cotton for the textile industry, which was previously sourced from Pakistan, could see price fluctuations. Although India produces its own cotton, any temporary supply shortages could lead to higher prices in the textile market. - Cement
Certain types of cement, like Binani Cement, were imported from Pakistan. Due to the ban, prices for these specific brands may increase as local alternatives are sought. - Leather Products and Traditional Wear
Products like Pishawari chappals and Lahore kurtas, which are popular in India, are also imported from Pakistan. A reduction in their supply could lead to a rise in prices for these traditional leather items and clothing.
