A big change is going to come in India regarding the use of air conditioners (AC). Now you will not be able to keep the temperature of AC in your home, office or mall less than 20 degrees Celsius and more than 28 degrees Celsius. Union Urban Development Minister Manohar Lal Khattar announced this new rule on Tuesday. He said that people who are used to running 'chilled AC' at 16-18 degrees will now have to change their habit.

Why is this change happening?
Khattar said that running the AC at such a low temperature not only wastes electricity but also puts more load on the machine. The main purpose of this rule is to save electricity, reduce electricity bills and save the environment. He also said that increasing the temperature of the AC by every 1 degree saves about 6 percent of electricity.
When will the new rule be implemented?
Khattar said that the new temperature standard for AC has been set between 20°C to 28°C. This rule will be implemented soon and its impact will be monitored. He said that this new guideline is still in trial, but if it is successful, it can soon be implemented across the country. Union Urban Development Minister Manohar Lal Khattar also said that such rules are already in force in many countries.
