Google Ads: Until now, the AI experience in Google Search has been largely separate from ads, but that's about to change. At its I/O 2026 event, Google announced that it's adding new types of smart ads to Search and AI Mode with the help of Gemini AI.
The company says that Search is now becoming more conversational and intelligent than before, hence Ads will also be presented in the same manner so that users can get more useful and personalized answers.
New Conversational Ads will come in AI Mode.
According to Google, approximately 75 percent of people using AI Mode are able to make decisions faster and with more confidence. That's why the company is testing two new ad formats based on Gemini.
The unique feature of these ads is that they won't just display generic sponsored links, but will also provide AI-generated answers based on the user's question. For example, if a user asks about easy ways to give their home a luxury spa-like scent, Gemini will tailor the answer to that question and suggest related products or services.
Highlighted Answers will appear in the search results.
When Google provides multiple suggestions for a question in AI Mode, the list will also include some sponsored recommendations. The company is calling these Highlighted Answers. Google says these ads will be clearly labeled "Sponsored" so users can easily identify which content is an advertisement.
AI Ads will now be available in regular Google Search as well.
Google doesn't want to limit itself to just AI Mode. In the coming months, the company is preparing to introduce new AI-based ads into regular Search as well.
Shopping Ads will be smarter.
If a user searches for high-end products like a TV, refrigerator, or coffee machine, Gemini will automatically display the products and explain which one might best suit their needs. For example, if someone searches for an espresso machine, the AI will not only show the model but also help them make the purchase by explaining its features in simple language.
The Business Agent will respond immediately
Google Search is now adding a new feature called Business Agent for Leads. This will function like an AI chat agent. For example, if a student is looking for information about a university, they can ask a question directly within Search, and the AI agent will respond instantly. This will help companies and institutions reach potential customers or students.
Big changes are happening in Google Search
At I/O 2026, Google also announced several major changes to Search. The company is now adding the Gemini 3.5 Flash model to AI Mode, making Search faster and smarter than before. Furthermore, the new Search Box will be able to better understand long queries and automatically expand to support more detailed queries.
Now you can search not only through text but also through videos and files.
Users will now be able to search not just text, but also images, videos, documents, and even upload Chrome tabs directly. Google also stated that with the help of Antigravity 2.0 technology, Search will now be able to generate visuals, diagrams, and dashboards in response to queries.
An autonomous AI Agent will provide 24x7 updates.
The company is also adding an Autonomous Monitoring Agent to Search that will continuously track blogs, news websites, finance and sports data, with the aim of providing users with the latest updates at all times.
