RBI gave another chance:

Initially, the deadline for exchanging these notes was set for September 30. After that, there was speculation about RBI extending the deadline, and NRIs (Non-Resident Indians) were also repeatedly requesting extensions. An important step by the Reserve Bank has brought a lot of relief to those people who for some reason were unable to deposit or exchange their Rs 2000 notes.

Notes will be changed only here

However, the Reserve Bank has made a change. Till now people were exchanging these notes by going to bank branches, but now this system will no longer exist. Now Rs 2000 notes can be exchanged only in 19 issue offices of RBI. People can also deposit these notes in their accounts at these 19 RBI offices. The limit for exchanging these notes will remain unchanged. This means you can exchange or deposit a maximum of Rs 20,000 in Rs 2000 notes at a time. In other words, you can exchange only 10 notes of Rs 2000 at a time.
