People are trying every trick in search of better sleep. The proof of this is the increasing consumption of sleep supplements. After America, now the number of people taking sleep supplements is increasing in India too.

According to the US Centers for Disease Control (CDC), 18% of people there take supplements for better sleep. Whereas in India this number is around 12%.

The growing market of sleep supplements
According to Statista data, the market of sleep-related products in India has reached Rs 2,410 crore. It is expected to increase at a rate of 9.55% every year. At the same time, this market in America is estimated to reach Rs 17,539 crore. India's growing population and rising stress levels have increased the demand for OTC (over-the-counter) medicines. These also include medicines that help in sleeping.

What are sleep supplements?
Sleep supplements include medications, natural remedies, therapy, lifestyle changes, and techniques that help people sleep better. For example, antihistamines such as diphenhydramine (Benadryl) or doxylamine (Unisom) are sleep supplements.

Matter of concern

However, experts have also expressed concern over the use of sleep supplements. This is because using them for a long time can cause many side effects. Therefore, they should not be consumed without a doctor's advice.
