Namibia has appointed a 17-year-old cricketer named Faf du Plessis as the captain of its squad for the 2026 Under-19 World Cup Qualifier Round. While the name might cause confusion, this Faf du Plessis is not the former South African captain but a young Namibian player.
Qualifiers Begin on March 28
According to ESPNcricinfo, Namibia's Faf du Plessis is a right-handed batsman who also bowls leg spin. He has already played three matches for Namibia and will now lead the team in the Division 1 qualifiers starting on March 28. Namibia is placed in the Africa group alongside Kenya, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, and Uganda.
The matches for this round will be held in Lagos, Nigeria, with Namibia kicking off its campaign against Nigeria. The 2026 Under-19 World Cup is set to be co-hosted by Zimbabwe and Namibia, and if the Namibian squad secures the top position in the Africa group, it will qualify for the main tournament.
