Pakistani actress Mahira Khan has found herself in the eye of a social media storm after making comments against India’s Operation Sindoor, a retaliatory strike following the Pahalgam terrorist attack. Her remarks sparked outrage, particularly among Indian netizens who once celebrated her Bollywood debut.
From Bollywood Dream to Political Commentary
Mahira Khan, who once fulfilled her childhood dream of working with Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan, is now being called out for her recent statements. Her film Raees (2017) opposite SRK was a major milestone in her career — a moment she had previously described with emotion and pride.
In an earlier viral video, Mahira recounted how she learned about her role:
“My phone was ringing repeatedly, and then I got a message: ‘Big film, pick up.’ I had no idea it was with Shahrukh Khan. I met the director the next day, gave an audition, and only later learned who the hero was.”
A Dream Come True
Mahira had openly shared how her family was in disbelief when she told them she was cast opposite Shahrukh. Her mother reportedly burst into tears, unable to believe the news. The actress often spoke about her admiration for Shahrukh, even revealing:
“Since childhood, I prayed to work with Shahrukh Khan.”
Netizens React: “Don’t Forget Who Fulfilled Your Dream”
However, following her remarks against India, many users on social media criticized her for hypocrisy. People reminded her of how warmly she was welcomed by Bollywood, and how Shahrukh Khan — despite political tensions — treated her with respect and kindness on set.
One user commented, “Mahira should not forget who gave her the biggest break of her career.” Another wrote, “When you needed India, you didn’t think about politics. Now suddenly it’s patriotism?”
The Politics of Art and Borders
This controversy has reignited the ongoing debate about cross-border collaborations in the arts, especially during times of political tension. While Mahira’s patriotic stance has earned praise in Pakistan, it has simultaneously alienated a section of her Indian fanbase, who once supported her rise in Bollywood.
