It is important to consume nutritious and healthy food to keep the body healthy, but it is also important that you consume good quality food items. Health experts say that the way adulteration in food items is increasing, many types of chemicals and preservatives are being used, and this can cause serious damage to health in many ways.

Mixing harmful chemicals in food items or using cheap alternatives instead of high-quality ingredients can increase the risk of many types of diseases. World Food Safety Day is celebrated every year on 7 June to focus people's attention on these issues and increase awareness about food safety.

Along with adulteration in milk, rice, and spices, many such harmful things have been used to cook fruits and vegetables, which can cause serious damage to many organs including the kidneys and liver. If you are also buying mangoes from the market these days, then be careful, your slightest carelessness can be very harmful to the body.

Use of harmful chemicals to ripen fruits

Mango is one of the most beneficial fruits for our health. It is considered a good source of fiber and protein along with Vitamin-A and C. But a little carelessness while eating mango can lead to many types of serious health problems and even poisoning.

Health experts say that unnatural methods are used to ripen mangoes and many other fruits. A chemical called calcium carbide (CaC2) is used for this. Calcium carbide is considered dangerous for human health.

Use of calcium carbide

Calcium carbide has been used to ripen fruits like mango, banana, and papaya before time and make them available in the market. Researchers say that if even a small amount of it goes into the body for a long time, then it can cause serious problems for organs like kidney and liver.

When calcium carbide is mixed with water, it releases acetylene gas. Acetylene gas is what ripens fruits. Studies have found that both calcium carbide and acetylene gas can cause many health risks.

What do dieticians say?

In a post on social media, dietician Richa Singh writes, "If you eat fruits ripened with calcium carbide without washing them properly, there is a risk of poisoning. These can be toxic to humans. Its excess in the body can increase the risk of poisoning and kidney failure along with serious skin problems."

Workers working in the fruit production industry who are exposed to excessive calcium carbide are at a higher risk of serious health problems. This can cause the risk of diseases like pulmonary edema (accumulation of fluid in the lungs), cardiac arrest, colon and prostate cancer.

These precautions are important

A dietician says, that to avoid harmful chemicals used in fruits and vegetables, it is important to soak them in water for at least half an hour before consuming them and consume them only after cleaning them properly with water. Consume organic things. Things available out of season are prepared or cooked using unnatural methods, such things should be avoided.
